Start Monday knowing why your work matters.
Midflyt helps bring teams in any organisation together each week to review progress, priorities and next steps. We provide training to help your teams build their own boards, support from a Navigator to guide discussions, and software to keep everyone and everything connected.
And then again.
Does this sound familiar?
Another meeting runs over, and it's still not clear who is responsible for what.
The real discussion happens after the meeting, rather than during it.
Your goals are set out in a plan that no one looks at again.
The problem is rarely the people themselves. It's how the team reviews progress, makes decisions and follows through together.
Obeya is not a tool.
It is a way of setting direction together.
With Obeya, teams come together each week to review progress, decide on next steps and agree who will do what. The board brings together the team's goals, progress and obstacles, alongside its decisions and agreed actions. The software supports this process, but it's the team that makes it work.
How teams use an Obeya
From annual plans to Monday morning
The board turns the goals in your annual plan into clear actions for the month ahead. Everyone can see how their work contributes to those goals.
A meeting with clear outcomes
The team discusses what's off track and agrees who will do what. Decisions and actions are recorded directly on the board, so there's no need to write up meeting minutes.
Working across teams
Hand over work to another team and track it through to completion, without having to chase by email.
What's holding us back?
Recurring problems get a clear plan of action, rather than being raised week after week.
Already using OGSM, OKRs or lean? You're halfway there
Many teams already work with a plan or a method: an OGSM on a single A4 sheet, quarterly OKRs, an annual plan or a lean approach with a daily start. That's a good starting point for an Obeya.
What such a plan often lacks is a regular meeting schedule. The plan is drawn up and presented, and then rarely opened again. An Obeya turns it into the work of the week. The ambition goes under Why we do it. The goals go in the lanes, each with a metric that shows progress. The steps go in the months, each with an owner. And every week, the team meets at the board to discuss what's off track.
Obeya itself comes from lean. It's a form of visual management: you see at a glance where things stand. You don't need to know lean to get started.
Three things that make a difference together
What does your meeting cost per year?
Select the number of people attending and how many minutes the meeting usually runs over.
That's 260 hours a year—for just one recurring meeting.
For example: 10 people × 30 extra minutes × 52 weekly meetings = 260 staff hours a year.
Built on experience and trust
Built on years of hands-on experience with Obeya. Designed for teams working shifts, across multiple locations and on days when things don't go to plan.
GDPR provides the baseline, with the Dutch government's information security baseline (BIO2) as a starting point. The software supports organisations with demanding security requirements, including private boards for sensitive information.
Connect the AI your organisation already uses, or choose to work without it. It helps you explore ideas and carry out tasks within your own permissions. You can disconnect it at any time.
Whether new colleagues join, a new year begins or established routines slip, Midflyt continues to support your team after the training.
Questions about Obeya
What is Obeya in one sentence?
Obeya is a way of working in which a team meets at one board every week to see where it stands, choose what needs to happen next and agree who does what. The word is Japanese for 'large room'.
Is Obeya the same as visual management?
Obeya is a form of visual management, but it's more than a board that shows progress. An Obeya comes with a regular meeting at the board, and someone who guides that meeting: the Navigator. The board supports the conversation; it isn't there for reporting to management.
Does it work alongside OGSM, OKR or an annual plan?
Yes. The plan you already have is the starting point for the board. The ambition goes under Why we do it, the goals go in the lanes and the steps in the months. The plan stays yours; the board makes sure it's discussed every week.
Which teams is it for?
For any team that wants to achieve goals together and discuss them every week. For example, a healthcare ward, a school team, a team at a local authority or a department in a business. A management team or a programme can have its own board too.
How do you start?
With an introductory meeting, in which we look at where you stand and where best to start: with management, a department, a team keen to get started, or a programme. The team then builds its own board in the Obeya basics training. You can try the software first, free for 30 days.
