Obeya and Midflyt
What is the difference between Obeya and the software?
Obeya is a way of setting direction together. Teams review progress, make decisions and agree on next steps each week. The software supports this process, but it's the team that makes it work.
Who is Midflyt for?
Midflyt is for teams in any sector that want to achieve shared goals—from healthcare and education to government and business.
Is there a Dutch version as well?
Yes. The website, online learning and software are available in Dutch and English. Select NL or EN in the top-right corner of the website.
Obeya, lean and other methods
Is Obeya the same as visual management?
Not quite. Visual management is the broad idea: showing where things stand, so that everyone can see it at a glance. An Obeya is one form of it, with its own purpose: seeing what the team is doing it for and whether it's on track. An Obeya also comes with a regular meeting at the board, guided by a Navigator.
How does Obeya relate to lean?
Obeya comes from lean, a way of working in which you remove waste and keep improving the work step by step. Lean management covers the whole organisation; an Obeya is one of the practices that go with it. You don't need a lean programme to start with an Obeya, and Kanban offers two other lean practices ready to use: the daily start and the improvement board.
Does it work alongside OGSM or OKRs?
Yes. An Obeya doesn't replace your plan; it turns it into the work of the week. With an OGSM, the O is the panel Why we do it, the G are the goals, the S is the direction of each lane and the M are the metrics and the steps in the months. With OKRs, the objective is the direction of a lane, and the key results are the goals, each with a metric and a target value.
Is Obeya agile?
Working agile means working in short steps and continually adjusting to what you learn along the way. An Obeya shares that idea: reviewing together every week where you stand, and adjusting. There are no sprints. The board works with months and a regular meeting. If you want a daily stand-up, use the daily start with a Kanban board, with a fixed agenda and a maximum number of cards per column.
The training
How long does Obeya basics take?
The training programme includes a planning discussion, online learning, a dedicated day for Navigators, two team training days at least two weeks apart, and a follow-up day. We agree on the schedule together during the planning discussion.
How much time do participants need to commit?
Participants complete a few hours of online learning throughout the programme and attend two training days. Navigators also complete additional online learning and attend an extra day.
How many people can take part in the training?
The training is designed for teams of up to 20 people. For larger teams, we arrange a second training group.
Who takes on the Navigator role?
Three or four members of your team take on the Navigator role. During the planning discussion, we help you identify who would be well suited to it.
Do managers take part?
Yes. Managers complete the same online learning and attend the training days. Before training begins, management sets out the vision that will guide the team's work.
What support is available after the training?
Support includes sessions to plan the year ahead, onboarding for new colleagues, peer sessions for Navigators and help with unresolved problems. Explore Beyond the basics.
The software
What can the AI in the software do?
The AI you connect can do everything the user is allowed to do: review boards, make suggestions and carry out actions. The AI cannot access private boards, and you can disconnect it at any time.
Can I try the software first?
Yes, you can try the software free for 30 days. If you want to know how your team would really work with it, book a meeting.
