From plans on paper to a team that adapts each week
Whether you work in healthcare, education, local government or business, the challenge is the same: turning plans into everyday action. Obeya helps your team put those plans into practice and adapt as things change.
How your team can use Obeya
Turn the goals in your annual plan or policy into clear actions for your team this month.
Hold short meetings at the board to discuss what's off track and agree on next steps.
Keep track of work involving multiple teams or partners through to completion.
Bring everyone involved together in one place to see how the project or programme is progressing.
See how your organisation is doing without having to request a separate report.
Obeya in healthcare, education, local government or a business
An Obeya works the same way in every sector: the goals, the work and what's in the way on one board, and a weekly discussion of what's off track. What differs is what's on the board. Choose a tab to see an example.
Healthcare
A ward is working on better handovers. The board shows what's changing this month and who is picking it up. If the ward already uses a daily start or a lean improvement board, these can be added as Kanban boards linked to the ward's board.
Education
A school team has goals from the school plan. The board shows what happens each term, so the plan doesn't end up in a drawer. Childcare works the same way, with an annual plan that is discussed every month.
Local government
A supervision and enforcement team uses the board to turn goals from its safety plan into action. For each area of work, the team can see its progress and what needs to happen this month. The same board supports integrated working across departments.
Construction and installation
A project team in installation engineering works with fitters, subcontractors and the client. On the board, the team sees for each project where it stands, what needs to happen this month and what it's waiting for.
Justice
A team works with partner organisations in the justice chain to shorten lead times. The board shows where cases get stuck, and with whom.
Manufacturing and logistics
A department has goals for delivery time and quality. On the board, the team sees each week what's off track and who is picking it up.
Professional services
A team is developing a new service with colleagues from three departments. The board tracks what needs to be finished each month, and where the team is waiting for someone else.

What Obeya is not
Obeya is an ongoing way of working together, supported by software. Installing the software is only the beginning.
Information recorded on the board doesn't need to be maintained separately elsewhere.
It becomes part of how the team sets direction and works together.
Getting started
Together, we'll explore your team's current situation and identify the right approach for you.
Together, we agree on the training programme. Your team appoints its Navigators, and management sets out the vision that will guide the team's work.
The training includes online learning, a dedicated day for the Navigators and two training days for the whole team.
Your team continues to run its own Obeya, with a follow-up day and additional support if needed.
What you need to get started
- A clear vision from management before the first training day.
- Three or four team members to act as Navigators.
- At least two weeks between the two training days.
- A team of up to 20 people. For larger groups, we arrange a second training group.
Ready to see what it could do for you?
In an introductory meeting, we discuss where your team stands and whether Obeya is a good fit.
